Who is Little Green Bird?
The Little Green Bird Conservation Trust is a New Zealand-based charitable trust founded by a team of bird health professionals and conservationists who care deeply about the future of Aotearoa’s birds.
We began with a bold but simple goal: to restore native habitats by purchasing and reforesting land, creating predator-proof sanctuaries where birds can thrive. As our work evolved, so did our focus. We began to see more clearly the kind of impact we wanted to make — and how to get there.
Today, our goal extends beyond habitat — into the health of birds across the country. Through accessible, community-powered testing projects, we help everyday bird owners test for important diseases in their flocks and, together, build a clearer picture of the health challenges facing our birds.
We offer low-cost testing for specific bird diseases and water quality issues, helping bird owners take proactive steps to protect the health of their flocks. The information gathered through these community-powered projects supports a better understanding of bird health challenges across Aotearoa.
Whether you’re a backyard poultry keeper, a rehabber, or someone who just loves birds — you’re part of the solution.
Why Your Support Matters Now
🌿 Laying the Groundwork – This first land purchase is the start of something bigger: a long-term project to restore native ecosystems, plant forests, and create predator-free bird sanctuaries.
🌿 Protecting Vulnerable Species – Many native birds, like the tūī, kererū, and tīeke, are struggling due to habitat loss. Expanding protected areas ensures they have safe spaces to nest, feed, and thrive.
🌿 Creating Lasting Impact – Establishing protected forests means future generations of birds—and people—can enjoy Aotearoa’s rich biodiversity.
🌿 Scientific Conservation – Funding will also support research, habitat restoration, and predator control to maximize the success of this initiative.
🌿 A Community-Driven Effort – This is just the beginning. Your donation makes you part of a movement to rewild and protect Aotearoa’s birdlife, starting with this first sanctuary.
